If I COULD DO ONE THING FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE-IT'D BE TRAVELING. I LOVE TRAVELING TO FOREIGN CORNERS ONLY TO DISCOVER WE'VE MORE IN COMMON THAN I EXPECTED. I LOVE THE FEELING OF ARRIVAL. GETTING LOST IN THE VIEWS AND THE CLIMATE. YOU FEEL THE FATIGUE AS THE TIME FALLS FROM THE WALL YET THE SUNSET ALWAYS MAKES YOU FEEL MORE ALIVE THAN EVER...
THESE ARE THE MOMENTS I'VE WITNESSED MYSELF FEELING MORE ALIVE THAN EVER.
WHEN SHOOTING LIFE-I ALWAYS TRY TO FIND THE NARRATIVE WITHIN IMAGES THAT CONNECT YOU TO THE CHARACTERS AND SETTING. THERE'S SO MUCH GOING ON WITHIN DAILY LIFE THAT EVEN THE SMALLEST DETAIL CAN BE THE SHOT THAT TIES THE WHOLE STORY TOGETHER. THE OBJECTIVE NATURE OF PHOTO DOCUMENTARY SHOULD HONESTLY CONVEY AN UNBIASED SNAPSHOT OF LIFE-NO MATTER HOW BRUTALLY SURREAL IT MAY BE.
WHENEVER I'M IN THE PHOTO PIT OR SHOOTING BACKSTAGE-I'D COMPARE IT TO WHAT I IMAGINE IT FEELS LIKE BEING A PILOT AND TAKING FLIGHT FOR THE HUNDREDTH TIME. SHOOTING LIVE MUSIC IS ALWAYS EXHILARATING FOR ME-MOSTLY BECAUSE I NEVER KNOW WHAT MY SUBJECTS ARE FEELING FOR THE DAY. WHEN SHOOTING MUSIC PHOTOGRAPHY-"FEEL", IS EVERYTHING... THE SOUL WITHIN A GOOD MUSIC PHOTO IS PRODUCED BY BEING SYNCHED SIMULTANEOUSLY ON AN EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL LEVEL. A MUSIC PHOTOGRAPHER MUST BE A CALIBRATED REACTANT TO THAT IMPULSE OF EMOTION.
I LIKE TO THINK OF MY ART LIKE IT'S A BALLOON AND I'M GOING TO FILL IT RIGHT UNTIL IT FEELS AS THOUGH IT'S GOING TO POP! I LOVE CONTRAST AND THE WAY LIGHT AND COLOR COMMUNICATE TO ONE ANOTHER IN DIFFERENT ATMOSPHERES. I AM CONSTANTLY USING THE COVER OF NIGHT TO GET CREATIVE AND THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX WITH MY ART.
A RHOMBUS IS SOMEONE WHOM FEELS SO COMPELLED TO LIVE LIFE THAT THEY LEAN IN AND CREATE AHEAD OF THEIR TIME. THEY ARE SEDUCTIVE-AND PROVOKE EXCITEMENT WHEREVER THEY GO. RHOMBI BELIEVE THERE'S NO RIGHT WAY TO BE ANYTHING AND WITH THE RIGHT IMAGINATION AND PHOTOGRAPHER-EVERYTHING SHOULD BE POSSIBLE.
WE DON'T ALL HAVE IT IN US TO BE PART OF THE THE RHOMBI TRIBE, BUT IF YOU DO-YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO ASK IF YOU ARE IN IT...
"FLOAT" was created in 2013. I was on a photo safari with a client that wanted me to document her weight loss and transformation when I came up with the idea to shoot her, "Floating". I wanted to shoot a composition that represented, "Weightlessness". Our set was so successful that it turned into a monster collection of subjects around Dallas. I held an art show in January at Kettle Art displaying my compositions. It felt good knowing that I had accomplished so much in such a short amount of time. This is still one of my favorite series.
Urban Exploration (URBEX) is a way for me to live out my inner-GOONIE. I have always been an explorer. There's a lot of beautiful texture within the atrophy of a dying structure. The way the rust seems to melt down the sheet metal, the overgrown weeds that grow between the broken windows, it's all just waiting to be remembered. I have been many unbelievable places-flashlight in hand, in the complete dark. The sounds of footsteps down an abandoned hallway, the dank air that never dissipates, the hidden passageways to secret rooms... these are all things I seek anytime I stumble upon an abandoned building. Enter at your own risk! Goonies Never Die.
MUSES ARE VITAL TO AN INVIGORATED SOUL. BEAUTY, CHARM, GRACE, INTONATION, TIMING, SEX, CONFIDENCE, SOUL, GLOW, COOL, INTELLIGENCE, ELEGANCE, TEMPER, HUMOR, FEARLESSNESS, MYSTERY, ADVENTUREOUS...THESE ARE THE QUALITIES THAT INSPIRE ME.
Every once in a while, I share a moment with another creature and when I'm fortunate enough to have my camera by my side, I try to come away with a photo that captures that tension between two species coming eye-to-eye. It's a very telepathic communication that occurs. Two completely different organisms-trying to figure out what the other wants... It's a very tense and intuitive moment when you lock eyes and become catatonic in hopes that something, anything, will break the ice. I've been fortunate enough to witness some magnificent creatures both-in the wild and in captivity. These are my animal interactions.
I'VE ALWAYS FOUND DEFIANCE TO BE EXHILARATING. BUSTED CURFEWS, SCHEMING, AND BREAKING SOME RULES... HALF THE ADVENTURE IS BEING THERE, THE OTHER HALF-IS NOT GETTING CAUGHT.
DON'T TELL MOM!
I like to daydream whenever I catch a flight and I'm resting my head against the shell of the airplane-eyes trying to stretch past the time and space continuum. The stirring colors blur as the clouds gently roll like big fluffy mountains, you can almost imagine what it'd be like to fall through them.
